CT Contrast Timing – Radiology Protocols

Delayed phase Postcontrast phase acquired with extracellular agents or gadobenate after the portal venous phase and with the following characteristics: Portal and hepatic veins are enhanced but less than in PVP Liver parenchyma is enhanced but usually less than in PVP Typically acquired 2 to 5 minutes after injection Transitional phase

The Radiology Assistant : CT contrast injection and protocols

01-06-2014 · For Late portal venous phase imaging it is different. Here you don't want to be too early, because you want to load the liver with contrast and it takes time for contrast to get from the portal vein into the liver parenchyma. Besides you have more time, because the delayed or equilibrium phase starts at about 3-4 minutes.

that patients who trigger late have a hypodynamic circula-tion and liver parenchymal enhancement may improve if the delay was longer than 45 seconds. The Radiology Assistant : Characterisation of liver masses

15-07-2006 · The best moment to start scanning is at about 75 seconds, so this is a late portal venous phase, because enhancement of the portal vein already starts at 35 sec in the late arterial phase. This late portal venous phase is also called the hepatic phase because there already must be enhancement of the hepatic veins.

If you are using Guess timing method portal venous scans must start about 60 seconds from the start of injection and the scan time must be less than 30 seconds. For the care bolus technique give 10-15 seconds delay after finishing the arterial scans (scan starts after 20 seconds + scan time 25 seconds = 45 seconds + 15 seconds delay = 60seconds).

Intravenous Contrast Medium Administration and Scan Timing ...

The transit time for normal recirculation may range 15–40 seconds depending on circulatory paths (faster for shorter paths). The recirculated contrast medium is further diluted by intravascular and extracellular volume, and the bolus dispersion is largely governed by blood flow and tissue perfusion.
