'Log In' vs. 'Login' and Other One-word-or-two Dilemmas ...

Should it be one word or two, they wonder. According to the Associated Press Stylebook, “login” is a noun and “log in” is a verb. So, if you're following AP style, you use your login to log in. Piece of cake. The Chicago Manual of Style doesn’t have an entry for "login."

Log In vs. Login - grammar

Therefore, "log in" is the verb referring to connecting to a system of computers by typing the username and the password. "Login", on the other hand, written as one word, is a noun or an adjective, referring directly to the data (username and password) that are introduced in order to connect a computer to another system. When do we use "log in"?

Login vs. Log In and Other 'One Word or Two?' Dilemmas ...

17-10-2011 · And neither Webster’s New World College Dictionary nor Merriam-Webster’s includes a listing for the word. So documents edited in Chicago style should use the two-word "log in" for both the noun and the verb. The “login” situation is a good guide for other one-word-vs.-two-word conundrums. Often, the noun form is one word and the verb is two words.

Login or log in – a way to choose one word or two | ffeathers

06-04-2014 · It may be that you decide to go with the growing common usage, and just use one word (like ‘login’) for everything. But if you want to follow the ‘rules’, they’re something like this: If it’s a verb, use two words. If it’s a noun, including cases when the noun is used to qualify another noun, use one word. What about hyphens (‘-‘)?

Why you use your 'logon' to 'log on' - Columbia Journalism ...

13-10-2014 · Many people involved in the computer and tech industry already use “logon” as both noun and verb, but there’s no outside consensus yet. While the hyphen-averse AP has gone with one word, its dictionary, WWN5, has no noun forms. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary prefers “log-on” and “log-in,” while the American Heritage Dictionary sides with the AP.

word choice - "Sign in", "signin" or "sign-in" - English ...

The verb is sign in. The noun is sign-in. The noun is better with the hyphen, because signin could be confused with an abbreviated signing that's lost its apostrophe. Alternatively you could use the more common log in for the verb, and login for the noun. Share Improve this answer answered Nov 28 '11 at 11:56 Hugo 65k 17 193 302 Add a comment 5
